Properties: yellowish brown powder lentinan is extracted from Lentinus edodes β- D (1 → 3) glucan residue as the main chain β- (1 → 6) dextran with side chain dextran residues. Lentinan is a gray white powder, mostly acidic polysaccharide. It is soluble in water and dilute alkali, especially in hot water. It is insoluble in organic solvents such as ethanol, acetone, ethyl acetate and ether. Its aqueous solution is transparent and viscous. Lentinan is a special immune adjuvant directed by thymus dependent T cells and participated by macrophages. It can recognize antigen macrophages in the spleen and liver, promote the production of lymphocyte activating factors, release various auxiliary T cell factors, and enhance the phagocytosis rate of host peritoneal macrophages. When lentinan is injected into the host for several hours, some physiologically active serum factors such as acute phase protein inducing factor, vasodilation and bleeding inducing factor The levels of IL-1 production inducer, IL3 and colony stimulating factor reached the peak. After these factors act on lymphocytes, hepatocytes and vascular endothelial cells, they produce many effective immune responses, and lead to the maturation, differentiation, proliferation and peripheral release of precursor T cells in the thymus.
